O-Sam Bokkeum is a dish of heavenly marriage between the land and the sea in that it brings together the most delicious ingredients from both environments. A spicy stir-fried dish with squid and pork belly, this plate becomes an automatic favorite for many who try it. The ingredients required and the prep process can be quite simple. Succulent squid and pork belly are sliced into nice bite sizes, then fried in a pan with chopped vegetables such as carrots, onions, cabbage, and green onions along with a spicy sauce that consists of gochujang, soy sauce, bit of chilli powder for extra heat, and finely minced ginger and garlic. These classic asian seasonings come together to create a beautiful dish that is packed with flavor. For some, the pairing of squid and pork belly can throw them off, but it can certainly be a new and exciting way of trying seafood with some distinct asian cuisine flair. The combination of squid, pork belly, and vegetables also means an abundance in yummy tastes and textures. Whilst pork belly is chewy and nutty, cooked squid is tender and soft. It delightfully complements the crunchy vegetables as well as all the other parts in the recipe. As for flavors, besides from the prominent burst of spiciness, there’s also notes of sweetness and savoriness. Additionally, garnishes of sesame seeds on top pop in your mouth with every bite. O-Sam Bokkeum is a dish high in protein thanks to having both squids and pork belly. Therefore, enjoying it with rice can be a good choice.
